Official Liner Notes for the New Album “Pisuke-note 1” (English)

PIECE of CAKE returns with their second album in two years, Pisuke-note 1. Produced over a span of 25 months filled with twists and turns, this latest release is a carefully crafted labor of love.

Like a toy box packed with everything the members wanted to create, this 10-track collection captures the true essence of PIECE of CAKE today. The album features fan favorites such as "PUMP IT UP!!" and "Peace sign," originally released with music videos on YouTube; the 2024 digital singles "Shadow of Flower" and "Like white snow"; and unique tracks like "Summer Hell," a song about the sorrows of a sumo wrestler. It also explores new territory with love songs like "BLUE ~Summer Mistake~" and "The moon is laughing at me."―a style not seen in their previous work, CHANCO. The physical CD edition includes a special bonus track: a three-member version of "Flower Without a Name," a single originally released in 2024 by 33 and Asa-chang.

Rock, Old style popular music, J-Pops, Rap, and more, this album is helmed by members who have topped the charts time and time again. They understand the value of timeless music―songs that won't fade in 10 or 20 years―and that vision is what brought this album to life.

1. PUMP IT UP!!

This track, which opens the album, was initially planned for release as the 4th digital single. It began with the idea of wanting to try rap. However, the challenge was how to elevate it beyond serious, authentic rap and integrate it into the pop genre. The song is an innovative blend of wordplay and rhymes, marking a new challenge for the band.

2. Present

A rocking Christmas number inspired by our members' childhood experiences, told from a child's perspective. It's a dazzling, sparkling song, like a Christmas tree, decorated with various holiday flavors.

3. Harmony

A solo track by 33. A heartwarming song built upon a sterile rhythm, warm strings, and two intertwined melodies based on the Canon motif.

4. Shadow of Flower (Acoustic Version)

The 3rd digital single gets a magnificent acoustic transformation for this release. It's a poignant spring ballad that lyrically captures two lovers parting beneath the cherry blossoms, illuminated by the moonlight.

5. Summer Hell

This song is based on a personal anecdote from the popular YouTube content "Sumo Aru Aru" (Sumo Commonalities). Following "Mr. Crusher" from the previous album CHANCO, this track delves into the melancholy and, at times, comical sorrow of a sumo wrestler.

6. Flower Without a Name (3PIECE version) ※CD only

Originally released as our 4th digital single featuring 33 and Asa-chang, this new version welcomes Showtan to complete the vocal trio. We see ourselves as "Flower without a name"—waiting in the dark until you found us. You are the light that shines upon us, allowing us to bloom. This anthem is dedicated to you, our supporters, filled with our deepest gratitude.

7. BLUE ~Summer Mistake~

Created when the album production was decided, with the thought, "This might be the perfect song to open the album!" It is a fast-paced, sorrowful love song that captures the feelings of a man navigating the delicate distance in a relationship.

8. The moon is laughing at me

A song with a somewhat ephemeral and nostalgic worldview. A lonely night often brings back memories of a finished love. A mid-tempo pop track blending the deep sadness of autumn with highly evocative lyrics. It beautifully likens the luminous full moon to a void within the heart—perfect for reflective listening.

9. BOMP

A solo track by Asa-chang. A rock anthem that expresses Asa-chang's inner turmoil, centered around his catchphrases during game streams: "Why?", "How come?", and "I can't take it anymore!" Listen to the cry of a BOMP (an ordinary man)!

10. Like white snow (PN Mix) 

This winter love song, originally released as the 5th digital single, has been newly mixed for the album. It sings of the bittersweet unrequited love of an adult and is a hidden masterpiece highly supported by PIECE of CAKE fans.

11. Peace sign

This song, which closes the album, was also initially planned for release as the 5th digital single. At the end of 2023, Asa-chang was rushed to the hospital and was in critical condition. This song was born from his experience of feeling the kindness of his supporters during that time. It is a gentle, encouraging anthem from PIECE of CAKE.
